No. 42 - Typewriter of the Day: Olympia SM 4 with Script Font

No. 42 - TOTD Olympia SM4 with Script Font.

It's raining and snowing here so I might as well take time to do a TOTD.  I was going to do a Remington Travel-riter but I decided to cull the machine and am going to take it in to the Salvation Army Thrift Store.   So on to the SM4.  This typewriter entered my collection years ago.  I am fascinated by machines that type in Script Font and this machine and its colour I enjoyed.  It had a problem with mashed rubber washers which made the machine sag and rub the carriage against the case.  Fixed this and it types fine now.  Just need to adjust the alignment of the upper case to the lower case - the upper case types slightly high and I need to find what is rolling around somewhere is the guts of the machine ant it will be perfect.  Condition is showing some wear from the carriage return lever and the space bar where the last owners thumb rested.  This would mean that this machine was used a lot which is amazing for script font which was usually just used for personal communication.

Let see what other writers used the SM4.  Going to Richard Polt's site I found Evan S. Connell, a wirter that I have not yet read but whom I will now.
