In the early days of computing there was an old axiom GIGO, garbage in garbage out.  For about twenty years computer users remembered this and treated computer output with a modicum of scepticism.  With the following generations who grew up with excessive computing power and software the concept has become lost.  You can calculate instantly to an unlimited number of decimal place but you really don't know if the answer to three significant digits is correct,



When you take the weakness in comprehension and the belief in the infallibility of computers you end up with a lot of people who really will believe anything they see on a computer.  With this mindset the political scientific community can't resist spinning the data to suit their theories.  So much for scientific method.



So much for the guys who could put a man on the moon.

Here is a problem that is going to be tough to fix but is very serious.  Government bureaucracies become politicized so easily when one party is in power longer.  In the United States the Dems with their longer tenure in power have thoroughly infiltrated the government with party faithful.  In Canada it is similar with the liberals and the civil service.  How a person votes is not the issue, the issue arises when the bureaucrat, who is bound to serve all citizens, decides he/she should carry on their assumed political struggle while still working in a safe government job.  The only solution will probably be to root out, at a minimum, the worst cases.  In pre-electronic days this would be hard to do but now it is going to be a lot easier to follow the flow of information and find diehards who don't accept that the election is over.



This situation is identical to the days of the Cambridge Five or maybe Six in Britain.  These pampered, privileged group lof upper class communists who fed information to their Russian masters where actually the same.  The leakers all think that they are Ellsbergs in the class struggle when in fact they are Philbys.
