It is probably just a result of climate change that cold weather progressed so deep into the US south and the northern Mexico.  What we can see is that without a strong energy base the boutique sources that the urban luddites request just don't cut it as a source of energy.  I note today that the spot price of natural gas at Henry Hub hit $16.13.  That's over a $10 increase in price.
