You have to just love Climate Barbie. (Just don't think about her being in charge.)

Just the Facts is a discussion of current world events from the point of view of someone who lives on the fringe of polite society, just plain old oil field trash.

No. 36 - Typewriter of the Day: Speedwriter Cavalier
No. 36 - TOTD Commodore Speedwriter Cavalier
I couldn't find a writer that used a Commodore Speedwriter but after some advice from Richard Polt I found a picture of a Czech writer using a Consul, the company that supplied Commodore with the parts needed to assemble the machine in Canada. After leaving typewriters Commodore went on to be an early leader in personal computer manufacturing with the C64 and the Amiga. When I bought this machine I had Eustace, at Brentwood Business Systems, fix it up and the case repaired at my luggage place, a strap handle had come off. Here is a picture:
The case straps are still lousy but this machine is snappy the way I like it, built like a tank similar to a Facit and is literally just a rebadged Consul. If you are looking for a working typewriter but want a deal look for a Consul or a Speedwriter.
Here is a picture I tracked down on Google Images of the Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal which I found on the WriteElephant blog which has a great write up on him. I haven't read any of his work but I have him on the list now for reading.
